EirGrid CEO discusses energy opportunities at event in Paris

EirGrid CEO Mark Foley addresses an event

EirGrid Chief Executive Mark Foley spoke about Ireland’s position, vision and challenges in the area of renewable energy and offshore wind when he appeared at the 'Franco-Irish Research: Enabling the Offshore Wind Potential of the Atlantic' event organised by the Irish Embassy in Paris.

Regis Boiegrain, Head of Offshore and Interconnection in France’s equivalent to EirGrid, Réseau de Transport d’Electricité, also spoke at the event, which was moderated by University College Cork Vice President Brian Ó Gallachóir.

EirGrid and RTE are working together to develop the Celtic Interconnector, a subsea link to allow the exchange of electricity between Ireland and France.

Mr Foley also met Niall Burgess, Ambassador of Ireland to France, for a wide-ranging discussion on the Celtic Interconnector project, and the potential for greater collaboration between Ireland and France on energy issues in the future.

A meeting also took place with representatives from the International Energy Agency during a visit to their headquarters.
